Mark Henry - NAC President's Message 2022-2023

Welcome back! I cannot wait to see all our members again in person as the ASHRAE

Northern Alberta Chapter season is underway.

My message today is about involvement in ASHRAE. ASHRAE was founded in 1894 so this year marks the 126 th year in existence. This will be the 67 th year of our Northern Alberta Chapter. Our industry has evolved a lot in those years. The challenge and needs of today and tomorrow continue to grow. ASHRAE is at the forefront of this challenge and provides technical resources and research to our industry. The ‘what’s in it for me’ is to engage in events, partnerships, content and networking.

I invite you to get involved with ASHRAE. Without the support of owners, architects, contractors, consultants, contractors and suppliers, ASHRAE does not exist or flourish. In addition to monthly meetings, social events and technical resources, there are so many different and diverse functions within ASHRAE. Take a look at the society website www.ASHRAE.org and click on the top ribbon for a number of technical resources, professional development, communities, conferences and membership. Our region website is available at https://ASHRAEregionxi.org and provides a lot of information for those interested in getting involved at the region or society level.

I’d like to recognize a new member to our ASHRAE NAC Board of Directors. He is Daniel Brown from BPA. Daniel started to attend our board meetings in the past year and attended the ASHRAE Annual Conference in Toronto in late June. Later this year (November), he will be attending the YEA Leadership Weekend in Vancouver. In a few short years, safe to say he will be writing this message. We look forward to hearing of his experiences.

Please feel free to reach out to myself or any of the board members with questions, suggestions or recommendations.

History Report October 2018

Past President’s Night was held at our last meeting. We were pleased to have 11 Past Presidents in attendance.

A couple of goals I have this year as Historian is to update our President’s photo board and add a lot of content to our website, including our archive of photo albums we recently had scanned.

If you have any ASHRAE related events coming up that would have historical value, please contact me and I’ll ensure it gets documented.

Mark Henry - Chapter Historian 2017-2018

I was born and raised in small town Saskatchewan.  I moved to Edmonton 17 years ago and continue to be a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan.  A nice bonus is that this annoys Tom Jacknisky.

After graduating from NAIT, I started out on the tools before joining a mechanical engineering firm for 10 years.  I’ve been on the sales side with my current employer for the last four years plus.

I’ve enjoyed my time on the Board as co-chair of Student Activities and the past few years as Chapter Historian.   I’m looking forward to my new position in the fall as Secretary.

I’ve been an ASHRAE member since 2011.  I’ve always enjoyed seeing everyone at the meetings/events, enjoying a good meal, and our speakers and lecturers.  It’s been great to spend time with other people in the industry.
